We are sad to announce that, for personal reasons, Project Blackbird will be taking a step back from live performances and recording for the foreseeable future.

We are very sorry that this means we are unable to honour the 2025 gig commitments we have made with following venues and organisations:

Temperance, The International, Young Ethel's, WaR3house 3, The Brightside, Robert's Westside, The Zoo Bar, Lost Lake, Fat Cat LV, Kulak's Woodshed, Barefoot Festival, Eel Pie Records, The Shakespeare Pub, SmuX, Muziekpodium Engelstede, Tonfink, and Galleri Da Winti

We are sorry to disappoint those of you who have made plans to see us perform, or in other ways support our gigs and tours. We are very thankful to the venues and organisers, to True Groove Records, and to all of you in anticipation, for your gracious understanding, patience, and support while we regroup and rebuild.

During this interval we will also be taking something of a break from active engagement on social media. However, we invite you to get in touch if you wish through our e-mail address, projectblackbird@projectblackbird.band , or through the contact page on our website (which goes to the same address and is fielded by Ming).  We would love to hear from you and will do our best to respond.

We will still be releasing “True Names” in its entirety on all major streaming platforms (April 2025) and will continue to sell hard copies of all our music, as well as the magnificent artwork and merchandise created by and designed with Chloë Bates and Jim Tetlow, respectively.

Any purchases can still be made through our Bandcamp page, by contacting us via e-mail, or in person through Moonflower Guitars in Oakham, Rutland, U.K.. (If you would like to buy anything through the guitar shop it’s best to give us a heads-up first so we can make sure what you want is in stock there.) Vinyl will also be available at select independent record shops.

We know that this news may be upsetting for many of you, as it is to us. But “space” has always been an important element of our music, and as much as we love performing together it is important for us to recognise what notes not to play, and when.

It is our hope that this time off will give us the opportunity to return wiser and stronger. Thank you again in the meantime for your ongoing support.

Peace, music, and fortitude -

This is our third album as Project Blackbird. It's been a long time coming, but it's finally here.

Some of you might be wondering about the title, so before you put on your headphones or open up the lyrics, here's a quick note about the concept of "true names” - a theme that comes courtesy of the writer Ursula K Le Guin.

In Le Guin's fictional realm of Earthsea, identity is multi-faceted and mysterious; there are selves and shadow selves; and a living thing's true name, its essence, is a source of profound power, vulnerability, and consequence. To be given another's true name is to exchange "that gift that only a friend can give, proof of unshaken, unshakeable trust". To give one's own is to allow oneself to be seen, to be heard, to be truly known.

Though only the lyrics of the title track are directly inspired by Le Guin's writing, each of these 12 songs has its own identity and its own set of truths to share.

We hope you find something of yourself in there, too.
