Thank you so much to those who supported our Juneteenth fundraiser. As a result of your generous purchases, we have just donated $475.19 to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund (alongside all Bandcamp fees which will have gone to the same organisation) and £400 + Gift Aid to The Runnymede Trust. Kudos to Bandcamp for planting the seed, and for believing that the promotion of independent music and social justice can and should be closely aligned.

With love and appreciation,

Project Blackbird

This coming Friday, the 19th of June, is Juneteenth, which marks the historical end of slavery in the US (though, sadly, not the end of racism, bigotry, or injustice). Bandcamp are doing a fundraiser on the day from midnight to midnight Pacific Time and are donating 100% of their share of sales to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, a (US) racial justice organisation with “a long history of effectively enacting change through litigation, advocacy, and public education“.

We have decided to follow suit, albeit from midnight BST until midnight Pacific Time, and are going to match our gross profits from any album or merchandise sales/postage on that day with a single donation to the NAACP and – since we are a Transatlantic band – an equal donation to the independent, UK-based racial equality think-tank Runnymede, which generates intelligence “to challenge race inequality in Britain through research, network building, leading debate, and policy engagement”.

We are going to repeat this annually on Juneteenth, as Bandcamp plans on doing.

We are aware that this is but a small gesture in the context of the fight for equality and social justice, but we hope it resonates with you and that you will consider making purchases, from us or any other artist, through Bandcamp this Friday.

Peace and fortitude x
